Introduction

Biomes are Homes for us All

You are a fifth grade student about to embark on an exploration of ecosystems! Your first unit of study has covered life science. To culminate your lessons on the kingdoms of scientific classification and biodiversity, your job is to design a power point presentation that highlights information relating what we have studied to a specific biome. Your project will educate your classmates about your particular biome.

Task

You are to explore a biome and the organisms that reside there. You will:

* Select a biome with your partner

* Research and describe the characteristics of the ecosystem

--Average Temperature - high, low, seasonal changes

--Soil type

--Rainfall - annual, seasonal changes

* List the organisms that live in this biome and adaptations that allow them to thrive in their environment

-- Vertebrate Animals

-- Invertebrate Animals

-- Plants or Fungus

* Describe interactions that occur in this ecosytem (examples: producers, consumers, predators, prey, decomposers)

* Create a presentation about your ecosystem using PowerPoint

Research

Pick a biome and use the worksheet Biome Web for your research - (print this out when completed).

Use the Biome Links provided.

While doing research for your biome keep the following questions in mind:

* What is a biome?

* What is the climate? - average temperature, high, low, seasonal changes, rainfall

* What are the soil, terrain, and landforms?

* What kind of vertebrate and invertebrate animals live here?

* What kind of plants or fungus live here?

* What kind of adaptations do the organisms have?

* How do these organisms affect the ecosystem?

* What are some of the interacttions that occur in this region? - producers, consumers, predators, prey, decomposers

As you research, copy link address to bibliography box on Biome Web.
