BPS remediation programs:

During the School Year and Summer Jump Start

During the school year -- BPS often holds a one-hour after school tutoring program for third grade students focusing on either reading / language arts or math. Students are invited to attend based on their ISTEP+ scores. Students not meeting State required levels set on ISTEP+ are the target group for attending these classes. The tutoring sessions focus on reading / language arts skills, math / problem solving skills and test taking skills.

Summer Jump Start -- BPS holds a Summer Jump Start class for upcoming third and fourth grade students. The focus is on reviewing Grade 2 and Grade 3 Indiana Curriculum Standards in the areas of reading / language arts and math. The sessions review skills and gets the children prepared for a full-day of "school" once again. This class is held the two weeks prior to the start of school in August. The classes meet from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. daily at BPS. Students are invited to attend based on their NWEA testing scores, ISTEP+ scores and teacher recommendation.

Gifted / Talented:

At Batesville Primary School, all teachers concentrate on skills that will broaden student thinking processes and creativity. It is felt that children of primary school age are too young to be truly identified as "gifted". Therefore, all BPS children are given challenge opportunities in a variety of areas, such as Bloom's higher levels of thinking, cooperative learning, DeBono's Six Thinking Hats and learning styles / multiple intelligences. All students are challenged to think "out of the box" and utilize higher level thinking strategies. Formal identification for gifted and talented programs is not done at Batesville Primary. If you would like to know more about how we differentiate instruction, please contact BPS at (812) 934-4509 or e-mail: skunkel@batesville.k12.in.us .
